Effective Literacy Website #7

Storynory (www.storynory.com) is a literacy website that uses audiobooks and podcasts to bring stories to life for listeners. This site was launched in 2005 and provides free content for all users. Although majority of the audiobooks and content are fiction stories, the site is working toward adding more nonfiction content such as history and interviews from experts in different fields. Although some of the podcasts and audiobooks are made from classic stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk. Storynory also features their original stories, which are written by the creators of the site. Two of their most popular original stories are about a character called Katie and a story titled Astropup.

Every audiobook that is posted on Storynory is accompanied by the transcript of the story. This is great because the listener is able to follow along with the audiobook and hear how the actors/actresses are speaking with expression to bring the story to life. Another feature of Storynory is that it engages students in occasional writing competitions. These competitions encourages students to write stories and send them in, to be converted into an audiobook and featured on Storynory.
