CASTANETO, Effective Literacy Site #6

The site I have chosen for my sixth review is Edutopia (https://www.edutopia.org). This educational organization was founded by George Lucas in 1991 and offers resources for educators of all grade levels. The main purpose of this site is to provide innovative and up to date educational resources so students can effectively apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed in real life. In doing so, teacher have access to what seems like an endless amount of exciting resources in this ever-evolving society.
The home page of this website gets straight to point and offers up great literacy resource categories to explore including recent articles, recent videos, popular topics, teacher development, student engagement, and formative assessments. Each of these categories features up to date articles, videos, and lesson ideas. In addition to features on the homepage there is also a drop down menu. The drop down menu features specific topics, videos, and their mission.  Upon sifting through the topics tab, I found they organize it alphabetically and there is no shortage of topics to be skimmed through.
Focusing on literacy some topics include Common Core, Communication Skills, and English Language Arts. I chose to explore the English Language Arts topic and found
“3 alternatives to Reading Logs”, “Why Read Aloud to Students in Middle School Students Work”, and “Connecting Math and Science to Reading and Writing”. These are just three of the many listed in this category.
I cannot put into writing just how many topics and resources are available on Edutopia! I utilized the search bar and looked up “phonics”, “rhyming”, “punctuation”, and “word association”. For each of these topics there were at least 30 featured articles, videos, or other resources. I appreciate the fact this site mainly focuses on new and updated trends in education. We need to move in a forward direction and hopefully this site is the start of something great.
In closing, I believe this is a great website to revisit from time to time to keep updated on new and exciting literacy implementation strategies. I would recommend Edutopia to any educator of any grade and subject because the topics have such a wide range.
