Effective Literacy Website #6 by Alison

If you are looking for a website that offers a variety of resources to improve students’ literacy skills, The Literacy Place (https://www.theliteracyplace.com) is the online place to go! This website is easy to navigate for all users and its layout is beautifully designed. It includes visually appealing colors, fonts, and graphics. The Literacy Place’s mission is to improve literacy by delivering high quality resources and training to teachers. The founders, Sheena and Louise, have written and published different books on literacy, which include a wide range of useful material that supports primary and middle school classroom teachers. In 2018, they were awarded the Teachers’ Choice Award for one of their books titled “Oral Language Book” at the NZ Education Awards.
Their books are not the only place to find teaching materials. The Literacy Place contains free downloadable and printable templates for reading and writing. You will also find numerous mini-lessons, lesson plans, quick write activities, and useful links and ideas to implement in your classroom. Although it does not give you the option to filter your search by grade level, it is still a lot of fun to go through their resources and explore what they have to offer. The Literacy Place also sells products such as books, stamps, stickers, editing eyes, and digital products. As mentioned earlier, their mission is to provide resources and training to teachers. On the website, you will find a section that shows their dates and topics for workshops. However, their workshops are only offered in New Zealand and Australia. Hopefully, The Literacy Place will continue to thrive and expand so they are able to offer workshops worldwide.
All in all, The Literacy Place seems like a fairly new website. Nonetheless, it still offers free downloadable resources that teachers can access worldwide. I am hoping that The Literacy Place continues to prosper in the upcoming years so that they may increase the number of resources available and expand their workshop locations. The Literacy Place is a place to go online for everyday ideas in the classroom. Definitely be sure to share this website to your colleagues to promote literacy!
