IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website #1

STORYNORY

https://www.storynory.com is one of the best effective literacy website for reading. It is a free audio story ever since 2005 until today. Storynory are both podcast and a website with audio streaming. Today, storynory has grown into the largest and best love archive of free children’s audio books on the internet. Storynory also produce factual content including history and interviews. They aim to stimulate a curiosity about the world and the ability to think critically. Storynory has over 600 audio stories on the site. Their original stories are written in home and read by professional actors.
Storynory takes a lot of time to produce their story. It takes two to three days writing the story. Then, another few days to proof read the writing and preparing the narration. Then, it usually takes two or three stories in a session lasting one and half hours. In addition to it, they spend more time adding music and sound effect. Finally it will upload to Libsyn which hosts the audio and publish the story on word press. Audience comes via website and podcast. It can add up to a million downloads in a single month. People from many countries listen to the story.
Most of the stories are aimed at an age group around 7 to 11 years. They also have some stories nursery stories and rhymes for preschool and some sophisticated stories. Children and adults enjoy listening to the stories. Some even send a message that says “they have grown up listening to storynory.”

Personal Technology Blog for Topic 3 (Internet Tools/Resources)

Internet Tools/Resources

These are the three Internet Tools or Resources that I am going to share about how effective they are in Education.

First, Google Docs is a very effective software that most teachers and students rely on today for writing, presentations, and doing research. There are various ways that Google Docs can show great effect in regards to learning. First, it embed PowerPoint, Word, Excel, PDF, Sheets and many more. It is an easy access at any time. The best part which I believe is the most effective part as a teacher is it is a real time collaboration editing. It is easier and faster when we have several people editing a document at the same time in Google Docs. And for this to happen, people need to have a Google account.

Teacher tube is a website for Video sharing. It is basically design for teachers to share and exchange their educational resources with each other. These website is a mixture of classroom teaching resources and teacher training. The best part of this Teacher tube website is it is a visual learning resources. Some teachers are like students who learn best when they actually see it in live rather learning through reading or listening. There are so many great strategies that teachers share on this website. I recommend this website to new teachers with no teaching experience to use as one of their teaching resources.

Moodle is a free learning Management System that is used to create private websites with online courses for educators. Moodle is a effective resources in Education because it enables you host, manage, and track your e-learning courses. This software application can be customized according to our needs. Moodle supports a wide variety of social learning tools. Users can collaborate using blogs, discussion forums, podcasts and email communication.

Time to Say Goodbye

ED638 has truly been an exhilarating class. It was nice to know more abut using the Internet in the classroom and revisiting some resources I forgot about. I am looking forward to implementing what I learned into my classroom as well as sharing the ideas with my colleagues. I appreciate all the website reviews from my classmates. Thank you Dr. Rivera for your patience and guidance. It is time to say goodbye for now, but we will see each other again soon.

Signing out,
