Effective Literacy Website #1: ABCya | R. Doculan

Website: ABCya

Source: Retrieved from https://www.abcya.com/

ABCya is a website full of fun educational games in which caters to grade levels ranging from Pre-Kindergarten all the way to the sixth grade. Although there is a premium membership option, ABCya offers several free games that may be access through a computer or even via its iPad application. The website is very user friendly and is well organized. In addition, it is free of inappropriate advertisements.
The idea behind this website began in 2004 and was designed by educators as well as parents who understand that an effective way of learning includes having fun while doing it. At the time, there were not much fun and appropriate resources to keep up with the growing trend of technology in the classroom. As a result, the founders of ABCya decided to create fun, educational games for students. Before they knew it, the website was being utilized by other teachers.
The games offered on this website are not only aligned to Common Core Standards, but several of them may be used to enrich lessons and provide reviews for specific standards. There are endless choices of supplemental games students may choose to play. In addition, the website is neatly organized and easy on the eyes. Games are organized according to grade level. Within each grade level, Common Core Standard aligned games are also strategically placed for easy access. On the other hand, the educational games are also organized according to easy to read categories from: Letters, Numbers, Holiday, Strategy, and Skill games.
Students are sure to enjoy visiting this website to help hone in on specific skills targeting standards while having fun. This website was first introduced to me a couple years ago when I first started teaching. From there, I noticed my students enjoyed visiting and playing the educational games offered on the website.
In addition to students independently sharpening their skills, this website may also be used interactively. In the classroom, I use this website alongside my Ipevo Wireless Interactive Whiteboard System to bring the games to life and fully immerse my students into having fun while learning.
